The American Truth Project

Most people can sense it. It's in the air. Something major is coming. It's as if it is inevitable and there is nothing you or anyone else can do.

This websites purpose is to begin. Begin heading off that inevitable, starting with an accurate understanding of the world around us. Doing that will require that we know the truth of things, as closely as it can be determined.

We are going to do something that no one has ever done before; determine truth with precision, on a grand scale using a special "truth engine" developed especially for the job. We call it Descartes. It was named after the renowned French mathematician-philosopher Rene Descartes, inventor of the Cartesian Coordinate System of Measurement, and equally famous for his philosophical postulate "I think, therefore I am"

The idea is to "plug" all candidates for truth into the truth engine, whose active element is for now common sense, that will probably morph in the future into some type of algorithm based Expert System. Descartes uses a process for deconstructing one sentence statements of proposed truth, or "hypothesis statements", into their fundamental parts or "premises", then tests each premise using rigorous analyses for quality and truthfulness. That process will ultimately output a "figure of merit" of 1-99% as to the probability of truth of important issues. What kind of issues?

It is important here that you have an idea of the kind of important issues we'll be dealing with. Typical of just such an important issue and one of the first we deal with in the forum, is that of Jury Nullification. Up until approximately 1895 judges in all jury trials would inform jurors that they had not just the "right" but the "duty" to judge not only the guilt or innocence of the accused, but the law itself and whether or not that law was being fairly applied. It was further explained that the juror also had a right to follow their own conscience, even if it was in opposition to the law as given to the jury by the judge. Then, in the case of Sparf and Hansen v. United States in 1895, the presiding judge neglected to inform the jury of their "rights" and "duty" which was upheld on appeal. Trial judges subsequently ceased the practice, even though Jury Nullification is to this day still available to, though virtually unknown by most jurors.

Jury Nullification is thought of by most people today as just another "urban myth", if indeed they've ever even heard the term before. Out of the 1.5 million people incarcerated in this country today, thousands, indeed tens of thousands have been jailed that a jury might have acquitted, had they of known they have the power to do so, a power that stems directly from the U.S. Constitution. This is only one of many truths yet to come, yet to be determined. The kind of truth that will set us all free, not just the wrongly accused. Become An Affiliate

We invite others who would like to start their own ATP affiliate to do so. We look forward to the day when there are hundreds of American Truth Project affiliates out there. All we ask is that we all make Descartes our truth engine, so that we all will be working from the same standard. Other than that you're on your own to try what ever you think will work. Even as it develops into ever more complex and capable versions, Descartes will always remain in the public domain available and free to all.

What you've seen so far is only one issue. An issue that was easily researched, mostly by way of the Internet. We would like to go farther, much farther. We would like to conduct experiments that would uncover the truth of even thornier issues. Doing that will cost money, money we don't now have.

Frankly, we can probably do a lot with a little. But we could really do a lot more, if we had a lot more.
